A Valuable Addition

Walnuts are an ingredient you should not be without in your kitchen cupboard. They add real value to recipes, whether sprinkled over pancakes or mixed into a cake. In our range, you will find various types of walnuts. You can choose from a small 250 gram bag of walnuts, a 1 kilo bag or a 5 kilo bag. With different quantities available, you can be sure you never buy too much or too little.

Why walnuts are good for you

Nuts are healthy, and the walnut is considered the healthiest of them all. It is not without reason that they are referred to as a superfood. They not only help support healthy blood pressure, but may also help reduce stress. Walnuts are packed with beneficial nutrients. In addition to omega-3 fats and fibre, they contain magnesium, protein, vitamin E, potassium, copper and zinc. All these nutrients have a positive effect on the body. They can contribute to lowering cholesterol, promoting better sleep, supporting weight management and can even be used as a meat substitute.

The origin of the walnut

With a little imagination, the shape of a walnut resembles that of the brain. Is this a coincidence? Certainly not. According to the doctrine of signatures, applied in traditional herbal medicine, the outward characteristics of a plant were believed to indicate its healing properties for humans. In the Middle Ages, walnuts were regarded as a remedy for head wounds and psychological disorders. Today, due to their high magnesium content, walnuts are still often referred to as ‘brain food’.
