What are raisins?

Before we take a closer look at our range and what to consider when placing your order, let us first explain what raisins actually are. A little background information is always useful. Raisins are dried grapes, slightly larger than their smaller relative, the currant. Originally, they are white or green-yellow grapes grown around the Mediterranean, in Australia, California or the Middle East. As almost all the water is removed from the grape during drying, the raisin becomes much sweeter than the original fruit. But are raisins healthy? Raisins are indeed a relatively healthy snack. All the beneficial properties of the grape are retained in the dried version. In addition, their high fibre content supports healthy digestion. An ideal addition to your bake.

Raisins from Molen de Hoop

At Baktotaal, you can order your raisins online, for example the 500 gram bag from Molen de Hoop. These large, blue raisins originate from Chile and are perfect for any sweet dish or bake. From the same supplier, we also offer a 1 kilo bag filled with bakery-quality raisins. These can be soaked before consumption and are particularly suitable for use in apple pie and raisin bread. You will also find in our webshop a 1 kilo bag of raisins with the EKO quality mark, which otherwise have exactly the same characteristics as the regular raisins: simply soak the raisins in lukewarm water for 10 minutes beforehand.

Bulk packs of raisins

Are you planning to bake more than just a few oliebollen or an apple pie? Then take a look at the bulk packs from Stolp. You can choose between a box containing 12.5 kilos of Sultana raisins or 14 kilos of medium raisins. Sultana raisins are the most commonly used variety. The medium raisins in the 14 kilo pack are ‘Special Cleaned’, which means they are ready to use straight away. There are no stones, twigs or vine stems in the box. These raisins are used in many bakeries. Such a large pack is ideal if you need a substantial quantity of raisins, for example to make a large number of bread rolls.
