The grain is grown by farmer Jan Steverink in the Silvoldse Slaege area of the Achterhoek, where centuries of flooding have created rich, heavy soils. Since 2005, Jan has cultivated ancient grain varieties ideal for bread, pastries and even beer. This flour forms an ideal base for baking pure, old-fashioned bread, and is suitable for both home bakers and professionals.

About Molen de Hoop
Molen de Hoop is a tall windmill built in 1850 by H.B. Meyer and taken over by the Pijnappel family two years later. The mill has been owned by this family for many years. In September 2014, Jan and his wife Henriëtte transferred the expanded Grutterij-Molen “Molen de Hoop” in Oud-Zevenaar to the current managers, Frits and Maaike Botter. Frits manages the milling and accounting, while Maaike oversees day-to-day operations and curates a range of premium and gift items. Though demanding, the work feels more like a labor of love for the family, and together they keep the mill’s wheels turning.

Today, Molen de Hoop supplies premium raw materials such as stone-ground flour and meal, as well as convenient bread mixes and cake mixes. These artisanal products are popular with hobby and professional bakers alike, and are available through Baktotaal.
