You will find baking tins in various sizes, shapes and materials, such as metal baking tins, silicone baking tins and paper baking tins. Below we explain which baking tins are most commonly used and what they are mainly used for. So be sure to read on!

Springform Tin
A baking tin that almost everyone is familiar with is the springform tin. A springform tin can be used to make various savoury and sweet tarts. Examples include apple pie, MonChou cake and quark cake. Don’t have this tin in your kitchen cupboard yet? Then it is certainly a good tin to have at home if you are just starting out with baking. Springform tins are available in different sizes. A standard springform tin is around 24 centimetres in diameter and has a loose base. This allows you to cut approximately 12 slices of cake.
Cake Tin
A cake tin, as the name suggests, is a tin in which you can bake a cake. In fact, a cake tin is similar to a springform tin, but with a fixed base. In our webshop you will find cake tins in both round and square shapes. These cake tins are often used for baking sponge cakes. Because this type of tin does not have a loose base, it is very important to make sure you use a tin with a good non-stick coating. In addition to the fact that a cake tin often has a non-stick coating, we still recommend greasing the tin well with butter or baking spray.
Loaf Tin
A slice of cake always goes well with a cup of coffee or tea. A cake is usually baked in a rectangular loaf tin. A standard loaf tin is approximately 25 centimetres long, from which you can cut around 12 slices of cake. You will also find these rectangular tins in our webshop in various lengths and almost all of them are equipped with a non-stick coating.
Brownie Tin
If you love chocolate, a good brownie tin is an essential addition to your collection. A brownie tin is usually slightly smaller and has a square shape. The standard size is a 20 x 20 centimetre brownie tin. This tin helps you achieve delicious chewy brownies, as it is smaller and deeper than, for example, a loaf tin. Of course, this tin is also perfect for making bars, blondies or butter cake.
Bread Tin
At first glance, a bread tin may look the same as a loaf tin. However, there is a clear difference between the two. A bread tin is slightly wider and shorter than a loaf tin. A standard bread tin is perfectly suitable for baking a regular loaf of bread. Would you like to bake sourdough bread? In that case, we recommend using a cast iron casserole dish.
Bundt Tin
If you would like to bake something a little different from a standard cake, we recommend getting a beautiful Bundt tin. A Bundt cake is essentially the same as a regular cake, but baked in a decorative round tin with patterns and a hole in the centre. This immediately gives the cake a more festive appearance. On our website you will find these tins in many different designs. A well-known brand that sells beautiful Bundt tins is Nordic Ware. These tins are made of cast aluminium and are of high quality, meaning they can last a lifetime. Because of all the edges and grooves, they can be a little more difficult to clean, but the Nordic Ware cleaning brush is perfect for this. At Baktotaal you will find a wide range of Nordic Ware baking tins. Discover our Nordic Ware range!
Cupcake Tin
To bake cupcakes and muffins, you need a muffin or cupcake tin. Even these tins are available in different sizes, such as for standard cupcakes and muffins, as well as mini cupcakes. Cupcakes are of course baked in paper cupcake cases, but these paper cases are not sturdy enough to bake the cupcakes in on their own. That is why it is best to place the paper cases in a special cupcake tin. This helps the cakes keep their shape and prevents them from collapsing. Cupcake tins can be made from silicone, aluminium and/or metal.
Quiche Tin
A quiche tin is specially designed for savoury tarts such as quiches and savoury flans. This baking tin can be recognised by its low sides and fluted edges. This shape gives your quiche a beautiful edge and helps the base bake properly. Quiche tins are often made of metal or ceramic and sometimes have a loose base, making it easier to remove the quiche from the tin. They are ideal for recipes with a crisp pastry base and a creamy filling of eggs, cream and vegetables.
Flan Tin
A flan tin is often used for making Limburgse vlaai and other tarts with a soft or airy filling. This tin is similar to a quiche tin, but is usually slightly deeper and has a smooth or lightly ridged edge. Flan tins are perfect for tarts with a yeast dough base and a filling of fruit, custard or quark. Because the sides are lower than those of a springform tin, the tart bakes evenly and develops a beautiful golden-brown crust.
How to Clean Your Baking Tins Properly
Do you have several baking tins at home and want to keep them in good condition for as long as possible? Then it is important to clean them properly so that the non-stick coating remains intact. Do not put metal baking tins in the dishwasher, as this can cause them to rust. It is best to wash the tins by hand using a little washing-up liquid and water. If something has baked onto the tin, it is best to let it soak in hot water with a little washing-up liquid. Scrubbing the tin can cause scratches. After cleaning the baking tin, it is important to dry it thoroughly. Some edges may be difficult to dry completely with a tea towel. In that case, you can place the baking tin in a warm oven for a short time so that it dries completely.
