What is maple syrup?

Maple syrup, also known as maple tree syrup, is a natural sweetener obtained from the sap of the maple tree. In spring, the sap is tapped and boiled down into a rich, syrupy liquid. The flavour is gently sweet with caramel-like and lightly smoky notes.

How can you use maple syrup?

Maple syrup is a natural and flavourful substitute for regular sugar. It adds a caramel-like sweetness with a subtle nutty note. You can use it in many different ways.

• In sweet bakes: add it to cakes, brownies, muffins or buttercream. In desserts: perfect over pancakes, waffles, mini pancakes, stirred through yoghurt or as a topping on ice cream and other desserts.

• In savoury dishes: combine it in marinades for meat or fish, over roasted vegetables or in homemade salad dressings.

• In drinks: use it as a natural sweetener in coffee or tea, or add a splash to smoothies.

Different types of maple syrup

In our webshop you will find various types and quantities of maple syrup. Choose, for example, organic or reduced-sugar varieties, available from 250 ml up to 710 ml. This way, there is always an option that suits your baking needs. We also offer both Grade A and Grade C maple syrup.

What is the difference between Grade A and Grade C maple syrup?

Maple syrup is available in different colour grades. The finest is Grade A syrup. It is light brown in colour and obtained from the first tapping early in the spring. Grade C syrup is darker brown and collected during a later tapping. This syrup has a rich, smooth caramel flavour.

The benefits of maple syrup

• Lower glycaemic index: helps prevent spikes in blood sugar levels.
• 100% natural: no additives or artificial ingredients.
•
Rich in antioxidants: contains natural antioxidants that contribute to a healthy diet.
•
Versatile use: delicious over pancakes, in bakes or as a sweetener in drinks.

Using maple syrup with other products

Maple syrup pairs excellently with seeds, nuts and fruit. Use it in cakes, muesli, pancakes or desserts such as ice cream and bavarois. This way, maple syrup adds that extra layer of flavour without the use of refined sugars.
