Mill & Mortar Nutmeg and Mace (Whole) Organic 45g
The nutmeg tree actually produces two spices: nutmeg and mace. The fruit of the tree is a shell containing the nutmeg. Surrounding the nut is a thick, protective shell that opens as the nuts ripen. When the shell cracks, the red mace can be seen enveloping the dark nut inside.
The nutmeg from Mill & Mortar is still inside the shell, preserving the flavours naturally. We recommend using a nutcracker to remove the shell from the nutmeg before use.
You probably already know what you can use nutmeg for, the use of the spice mace is a bit less well known. The flavour of mace is slightly less potent than that of nutmeg. Mace has a slightly sweet undertone, which makes it great for flavouring cakes and desserts. Use the whole mace or tear the spice into small pieces.
