100% Dutch Pumpkin Seed Oil, from the Achterhoek region. The oil is pressed from the roasted seeds of the oil pumpkin. The dark green oil has a nutty flavour that gives it a spicy-sweet aroma. Ideally suited to use in or on salads, soups, ice cream and various other dishes.
With PitWith Pit (Vegetable Nursery Smits) is a vegetable grower at heart. Grower Gert Smits already grew pumpkins, but previously only for full consumption and for ornamental purposes. Nowadays, he also grows oil pumpkins on the land in "De Heurne", the Achterhoek. Because why get pumpkin seeds from China or Austria when they can also be stalked excellently on Dutch land.
The pumpkin seeds grow neatly in a row and when they are fully grown, the lead dies off. The pumpkins continue to ripen and the nutrients are then extracted from the flesh. "The kernels then get a 'belly', which is what you want to see," says Gert. The kernels are separated from the flesh during harvesting. The kernels are used for consumption and the pulp is used as a green manure crop. The kernels can then be perfectly used to incorporate into dishes, eaten as a snack or pressed into oil.
