What do you use a thin peeler for?

A thin peeler is a kitchen tool used to remove very thin peels. You mainly use it for potatoes, but also for carrots, cucumbers, asparagus and other vegetables. With a good thin peeler, you can peel fruit and vegetables effortlessly, without having to fiddle around with a paring knife.

Choose from various thin peelers

At Baktotaal you can choose from different types of thin peelers. You’ll find potato peelers, asparagus peelers and standard thin peelers. Below we explain the two types:

I-shaped peeler: has a straight, long handle with a blade that runs parallel to the handle. You hold it like a pen and peel your fruit or vegetables using small, precise movements.

Y-shaped peeler: has a pivoting flat blade set perpendicular to the handle. The handle is usually a bit wider, so you can hold it firmly between your thumb and fingers. With this model, you peel in long strokes along carrots, pumpkins or large potatoes.

But which is the best thin peeler? Both peelers work in the same way; the difference is in the shape. Which model you choose depends on your personal preference.

The material of a thin peeler

A thin peeler has a stainless-steel blade. This means it lasts longer and continues to work well. Many thin peelers are dishwasher-safe, which makes them easy to clean. Besides the blade, the handle is also important. This is often made of plastic or rubber, which provides extra grip and comfort while peeling. That way you can work safely and accurately, without the peeler slipping from your hand.

Combine a thin peeler with other kitchen tools

Use your thin peeler together with other handy kitchen tools, such as a grater. This allows you to finely grate, for example, cheese, vegetables or lemon zest for extra flavour. A cake divider helps you cut a cake into equal portions so everyone gets the same size slice. Also take a look at our range for cutting and slicing, such as cake dividers and cake saws. You’ll find everything you need for baking in our webshop!
